Hotel-Dieu de France (HDF), founded
in 1923, is one of the largest and recommended hospitals
in Lebanon. HDF is a primary teaching affiliate for
the Saint Joseph University in Lebanon with a mission
to provide consistently accessible health services for
all. Hotel Dieu de France constitutes a center of care,
a pole of excellence and medical reference in the Middle
East Region.

The Challenge: Centralized Application Delivery and Control
at Low Cost
Hotel Dieu De France faced the challenge
of obtaining fast, homogenous and reliable application
deployment. With 200 users, its objectives were to minimize
the cost of expansion, future hardware and software upgrades,
and at the same time find a solution that would not only
centralize the support and maintenance of present and
future PCs, but also standardize the several platforms
and applications in a high availability and load-balanced
environment.

:: Implementing
Citrix® MetaFrame® Application Server Software
Mr. Esseily looked to Citrix® MetaFrame® software
to provide a fast and cost-effective solution that would scale
with their hospital's needs. By installing Citrix solutions
and Citrix Load Balancing services, maximum scalability and
performance were ensured. The implementation of Citrix
MetaFrame with Microsoft® Windows 2000 Server has enabled
over 200 users in the Medical Center to access our critical
applications said Mr. Essaily. We were able to
add easily new users, new applications and new servers to
the system. Citrix made our life easier he added.

Deployment
With a strong head for Information Technology, Hotel Dieu de
France IT Director stated, Investing into Citrix Server
was definitely the way to go. After attending TRINECs
Citrix Regional launch at the Phoenicia Inter-Continental Hotel
in April 2001, Mr. Essaily became attentive to the many advantages
that Citrix-Server Based Technology can make available. With
Metaframe, the hospital was able to deploy applications quickly
on central servers instead of on each individual terminal, resulting
in a reduction in maintenance and IT costs. With our server-based
computing technology, the amount of time spent on the IT environment
was significantly reduced. We have been able to increase the
life of our existing hardware by deploying a large number of
thin clients and to support our users in a more efficient and
professional way, confirmed Mr. Essaily. We were
not obliged to buy the latest PC technology, nor upgrade our
old PCs; thanks to Citrix solutions, our total cost of ownership
was reduced up to 60%.

and Time Savings up to 60%
Subsequent to research and in the middle of a full IT restructuring,
the big question was whether Mr. Esseily was convinced with
Citrix? Based on positive testimonials from organizations
in various sectors, particularly Saint Joseph University (USJ)
that has been working effectively using Citrix Technology
since last year, Mr. Esseily concluded that the total cost
of computing can spiral out of control with the traditional
model.
In view of the fact that centralized Management was the key
intent apart from lowering the total cost of computing investment,
Hotel Dieu de France Management agreed that Citrix server-Based
computing technology was the solution that would not only
save the Hospital approximately 60%, but at the same time
satisfy all the hospitals IT criteria in a faster and more
managed environment.

Deployment
We are looking to install developer 2000 or Oracle
Suite 9i for the development of our Medical Applications,
noted Mr.Essaily. We are sure that Citrix Solutions
will enable us to simplify the installation, deployment and
upgrade of all our new and old applications.
